We were overwhelmed with the painful daily struggle of many people to obtain simple drinking water. Many women and children are walking hours a day to find a single bucket of dirty and diseased water. Often times the same water that cattle have walked through, people have bathed in, dirty clothes are washed in, and human waste has been dumped in will be used for cooking and drinking. When the rains cease their water sources dry up and the people go without. When this happens the cattle begin to die and so do the people. One well can bring a healthier way of living to a whole village. We are determined to find a way to bring the treasure of clean water to a thirsty people. |
WATER IS ESSENTIAL FOR LIFEBecause of changing weather patterns many are now going without water. Suffering and death has spread throughout the drought stricken areas of Kenya.
Even when weather patterns are normal many do not have access to safe drink water. Cattle are known to urinate and defecate in the same water that will be drawn for drinking and cooking. Those within the villages live without access to clean water. All ages, including the very young, suffer with the diseases brought on by drinking this contaminated water. Water-borne diseases include cholera, typhoid, bacillary dysentery, polio, meningitis, hepatitis A and E, diarrhea, Guinea worm disease, sleeping sickness, ngue fever, filariasis, schistosomiasis, paragonimiasis, clonorchiasis trachoma,TB, e. coli poisoning, giardia, amoebas, parasites, the list goes on an on. They also deal with flies and mosquitoes that breed or live in the water. They spread malaria and yellow fever. The quality of their life is greatly hindered because they lack clean water. Diseased brings suffering and death. |
Have you seen a grown man drink from a mud puddle?
Have you seen a child gathering water in her cup from the dirty drain water running beside the road? Have you seen mamas gathering water from the same watering hole the cattle are standing in and clothes are washed in? Have you seen children gathering beneath a city drainage pipe to bathe? Have you seen water covered by green algae being gathered by the women? It would break your heart…… |
